ALA plays a market-leading role in the energy and oil & gas space in Ghana. The firm possesses pioneering expertise in relation to oil & gas related work in the country. Two of the firm’s three partners were among the first to be exposed to and be trained in oil & gas legal work and the market holds their counsel in very high esteem. Members of ALA have advised market-leading clients among who are the syndicate of lenders who financed the Operator Jubilee field and provided non-Operator JOA financing to the OCTP Field. Members of the firm have also advised DOF Subsea, Aker Solutions, Dominion Gas, Gazprom and Craig International from Aberdeen.

ALA is also noted for its work in advising clients on the oil & gas regulatory regime in Ghana particularly in the areas of establishment and the “local content” regime. Apart from advising clients, ALA’s members are also noted for their contributions to the oil & gas discourse in Ghana through their research and writings. Topics to which contributions have been made include “stabilisation clauses in Petroleum Agreements” “mitigation of risks in Gas Sales Agreements” “maximising indigenous gains in the local content regime”. Members have also contributed significantly to developing the debate and analysis of the major policies affecting the sector in Ghana.

The Managing Partner of the Firm currently chairs the Legal and Governance Committee of the Board of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). In the power generation sector, ALA has immense expertise in advising independent power producers in entering into power purchase agreements with entities engaged in the distribution and retail of power both to industry and domestic users. The firm’s expertise also extends to the project financing of power producers in Ghana both on the side of lenders and the side of project sponsors.
