ALA is noted for its work in advising clients on the oil & gas regulatory regime in Ghana particularly in the areas of establishment and the “local content” regime. ALA’s members are also well-known for their contributions to the oil & gas discourse in Ghana through their research and writings. Topics such as, “stabilisation clauses in Petroleum Agreements”, “mitigation of risks in Gas Sales Agreements”, and “maximising indigenous gains in the local content regime” are a few titles to mention. Members have also contributed significantly to developing the debate and analysis of the major policies affecting the sector in Ghana.

The Managing Partner of the Firm served on the 8th Board of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), where she chaired the Legal & Governance sub-committee. In the power generation sector, ALA has immense expertise in advising independent power producers in entering into power purchase agreements with entities engaged in the distribution and retail of power both to industry and domestic users. At ALA, we provide various bespoke legal services in power sector related transactions, including, asset acquisitions, greenfield and brownfield project advisory and regulatory and compliance support.
The firm’s expertise also extends to the project financing of power producers in Ghana both on the side of lenders and the side of project sponsors.


As a firm, we have relevant experience in advising clients on all aspects of mining. The mining team leverages its knowledge of the mining laws of the Republic and its experience over the years to advise clients. The team has advised clients on mining rights applications, compliance, renewal of licences, prospecting, refinery, resolution of disputes, and securitization of gold royalties.

Our team has contributed to the passage of some of the laws in the mining sector as key participants at workshops and seminars organised for such purpose.

Our clients include holders of large scale and medium scale mining concessions where they are mining precious metals such as gold, manganese and bauxite. Other clients carry out stone quarrying.

We have worked as counsel to international counsel advising the Government of the Republic of Ghana on the securitization of royalties from gold mining in Ghana where we provided key insights into the mining laws of Ghana and the impact of the intended transaction. The team also advised on the promulgation of the relevant laws and reviewed key agreements.

Intellectual Property
